Made Some Sites
|
Busy week.
Jade's Journey - Will chronicle Jade's battle with Leukemia. Wine Club for Men - A [currently] three person club in which we'll review a bottle of wine each week.
In the near future I'll be creating a site for the IT services company I've started, and another for personal running coaching.

| Let me know when you get to review Charles Shaw, it's top notch. |

The header currently reads "Wine Club for Me" in FF/IE/Chrome for Windows. If you expand the format to include contributing authors and not just people who can meet in person, let me know. I think if you can build out so that it's not just three dudes who drink a bottle each week, you'd really be on to something. Think TechCrunch, only for wine. Of course you may not even care to do that and just want a place to host your thoughts. |

Drizzle, I absolutely hate Charles Shaw. Unless someone else provides it, it ain't happening. I have a blog post on how much the owner of the company has done for the wine industry, and how much the wine industry hates him, but that's as far as I'll go... I'd rather leave the drinking of it to the burgeoning/cheap oenos.
Chris, thanks for the formatting heads up. Goofy that different OSes can display a fixed font size completely differently. Actually, extra odd, my PC upstairs displays it just fine. Maybe a widescreen thing? Caitlin's 4:3 laptop displays it as "Me." I also think I might be on to something (I was AMAZED when I found no wine clubs strictly for men on the web), but don't really have the resources to make it bigger. It's currently just coworkers, but I may expand it to something that includes local folk meeting every other week or so. Problem is, there already are plenty of wine review sites... What could a site just for men offer over them? |

As far as making it bigger, you'd just need to open the Wordpress CMS to additional posters and not give them admin rights (not sure how Wordpress does it). Contributors, who you knew or previously screened, could write posts and you publish them whenever you want. I think if you marketed it as "wine without the sissy" and maybe talked about manly meals that would pair well with it, you'd have a niche. After you get a decent amount of content, you spam it all over Facebook, Twitter and wine taster forums so get more traffic. |

Caitlin and I did some brainstorming. Keeping it somewhat local, but maybe having mini-clubs (or "troops") that do the weekly drink together would work. Have a DC group, an inside the beltway group, a 'burbs group. I'd like to keep it so each "troop" drinks the same thing so some planning would be required, but it could work... Perhaps the club as a whole could get together once a month? Maybe allow each little club's leader do the posting? You interested? |

| Definitely interested, but you might be limiting your audience. I know the idea is built on people sampling together, but as someone who lives and works in the 'burbs and goes to school with "grown ups" I can attest that most people just don't have the time. By having a "get together and drink" format, you're basically limiting it to people who are old enough to like wine but are young enough not to have kids or hectic jobs. The 'burbs group would probably consist of me and that's about it. You may not want to alienate the idea of it being a club, and that's cool, but I'm just not sure the market will be there. |

Your wine website is absolutely gorgeous. Nice work and I'm actually curious about the wines you are reviewing and reading all the commentary. :) |
