After dodging it for two years, COVID has entered our home. I’m the only one testing positive so far and we’re hoping it stays that way, but man, it’s out there! We know of ~7 friend cases around the US when it had previously never been more than 1 or 2.

I’m isolated in our TV room, bored with Netflix, poking my head out the window when the family is in the yard, checking social media far too often, and slowly grinding away at a stack of snacks.

I feel pretty fine. Awoke with a fever the night I tested positive, but that subsided with Advil. I continue to have an occasional cough, body is achey and sensitive, and I’ve been tired as heck, but I’m pretty sure parenting contributed to that.

On the parenting side, THANK GOD MY SISTER IS HERE FOR MIA’S BIRTHDAY! She unfortunately landed the day before I tested positive. With any luck I wasn’t contagious (tested negative that day) while I was around her, but time will tell. She’s been invaluable in helping Rebecca with the kids. I’ve got some serious thanks to spread around when I get out of this room.

Unfortunately, we’ve had to cancel Mia’s birthday party this weekend since she’ll still be on quarantine. At least one other parent who was invited is infected so that may have happened anyway. We’re quite certain a school event this past weekend (where that person also was) was the spreader. I’m super bummed about this as it also meant Grandma canceled her trip; Mia was very excited to see her again even though she had been here maybe three weeks ago.

If all goes well we end isolation and quarantine Sunday morning and proceed with a normal Mother’s Day as planned.
