So Dnorm tells me today that according to our friend (an accountant) that it is more risky for life insurance companies to insure a bike rider than a smoker. Being the skeptic that I am, I do some research…

53,300,000 smokers in America
400,000 die from smoking related junk in America per year
53,300,000 / 400,000 = 1 in 133 smokers will die this year

3,500,000 motorcycle riders in America
4,000 die in America per year
3,500,000 / 4,000 = 1 in 875 motorcyclists will die this year

875 / 133 = If I started smoking today, there is a 6 times better chance I’ll die from it before I die from riding. Sorry Dave, numbers don’t lie. Don’t give me “risk factors,” a death is a death.

The kicker? These motorcycle stats have gone way up since war began; soldiers come back with money to burn, buy fast bikes, don’t wear gear, and die. Those people are more likely to die than me, someone with a head (relatively) on my shoulders. Additionally, I have full gear, most people who die do not. There is no “gear” to wear when you smoke. Bottom line? My risk = lower than if I smoked AND I smell better and look 10x sexier. Thank you, come again.
