Just bought a batch of movies at Blockbuster the other day and this happened to be one of them. I caught the first few minutes of it on a flight to Vegas before it was rudely interrupted by a stewardess and then not rewinded after she was done speaking so I stopped watching. I also heard really great things about it, I think it won a lot of awards, and Caitlin had been going on about seeing it for a while now. So… I bought it.
The story is a great one, but I feel a lot more could have been done with it. I don’t know what to point my finger at, but something didn’t seem complete. Maybe I would have liked to see the kid grow up more since it focused so much on his well-being? I don’t know. Anyway, the casting was perfect. I think using a father/son combo added a little bit of intangible that is not present in other movies of this type.
All in all, a decent movie, but I was expecting a bit more.
7.8/10 – Guaranteed to make her cry
