I wasn’t sold on the guy when he was drafted, I wasn’t sold on him at the beginning of this year, but I think I’m finally starting to come around following his pretty damned good performance this past weekend. Let’s take a look at some notes:

  1. He’s better than Brunell.
  2. He’s better than Ramsey or Shuler (other notable top QB picks by the Skins).
  3. He’s better than all but one QB from the 2005 draft, and that guy was a complete fluke: Alex Smith has an 63.5 passer rating, Aaron Rodgers 48.5, Jason Campbell 79.0, Charlie Frye 71.2, Andrew Walkter 55.8, Kyle Orton 59.7, Stefan LeFors hasn’t played, Dan Orlovsky 51.8, Adrian McPherson hasn’t played, Derek Anderson 82.0, James Kilian hasn’t played, Matt Cassel 71.8, and Ryan Fitzpatrick 58.2.
  4. He’s doing pretty well when compared against some pretty decent QBs at their 16th game (note: values are approximate, but pretty darned close): Dan Marino 100 QB rating after 16, Ben Roethlisberger 98, Tony Romo 95, Tom Brady 86, Joe Montana 86, Jim Kelly 83, Jason Campbell 79, Warren Moon 77, Peyton Manning 71, Phil Simms 64, Steve Young 59, Troy Aikman 57, John Elway 57, Vinny Testaverde 53, Terry Bradshaw 32.

Conclusion? I’m not going to write him off yet. He’s not Dan Marino, Big Ben, or Tommyboy, but hell, he’s showing more promise than more than half of the QBs from the “modern era” in the Hall of Fame!
