[I know, this isn’t about last week… I’m bad]

David and I have agreed to begin a diet together today. With me not running, I’ve been finding it hard to maintain good health habits. Sadly, diets are not easy, which is why we’re doing it together; we’ll keep each other straight.

Before you get thinking “Oh my god, Mike, you’re already skinny!” know that this isn’t a diet as you commonly think of; no Jenny Craig here. Instead, it’s just making a conscious effort to eat better. The diet we’re going with? Paleolithic. There are forms of it in which you do cut back intake drastically, but I’m not really interested in that; I’m more concerned with cutting out processed crap.

Is it the right diet for my goal? I’m not sure, I don’t know about all the types of diets out there, but I do know it’ll help. The basic rules are you can’t eat anything processed, no beans or legumes that must be cooked, but you can “cheat” and have a regular meal three times a week; it’s a hard diet to maintain in public.

So… Don’t bug me to go out to lunch every day. My bag is likely full of leftovers from the night before, veggies, fruit, or nuts. I’ll likely schedule my three cheat meals at the beginning of the week and fill in the parties that need to know.

I doubt this will be a long term diet I adhere to, but for at least the next month while I’m still not running, my mantra will be “Eat like a caveman, exercise like a caveman.” I just hope I don’t start growing lots of extra body hair.
