A samurai adaptation of King Lear by film great Akira Kurosawa. Suffering from ADD, I was forced to take several breaks while watching this movie in order to retain my interest. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great story and a very good film, but three hours of reading subtitles will challenge even the best of us. The battle scenes left something to be desired, but the blood effects were simply awesome (giant splatters, streams of blood). As an added bonus, Kurosawa added his on twists in to the King Lear story with several powerful metaphors that I won’t spoil for you here. This one might be difficult to find, but I’d recommend you just borrow it from me if you’re interested.

6.9/10 – long, subtitled, didn’t hold my interest enough to view in one sitting
