So yesterday I did some thinking about places to live, and came to the conclusion (this is nothing new) that renting really sucks; I want to buy. Then of course, I looked at prices in the area and areas I wouldn’t mind living (Arlington, Herndon, Reston), and grew depressed. Then I stumble across a house boat! $50,000 and you can use it to go all over the waterways! BRILLIANT! Certainly there would be a few logistics to work out, but why don’t more people do this? Someone find me a badassed boat and I’ll let you sleep over now and then.

I have a relative who lives in a houseboat. Actually, I might have more than one, I’m not really sure. Ain’t nothing wrong with it although I bet slip prices at Marina’s around here are ass expensive.

Uh, same way it does at a house? You know they’ve been running fresh water and power lines down piers forever. I’d be willing to bet at the nicer places they run coax and copper down the piers too.

Satellite internet is not even a question. From what I remember, the bandwidth isn\’t half bad, but the response time (ping) is ridic.

Everyone says that… The bubble isn\’t going to burst. If anything, it will stop growing, but that doesn\’t help much.
Rent is money down the drain.

I don’t know, it looks to me like it’s already starting to burst. Several people in my office are selling right now out of fear of a declining market… if enough people end up thinking that and selling “before the bust” they’ll end up causing the bust on their own.
Then I can afford my shack to live in.

I get real estate articles at work all of the time (I work in real estate) and the latest one I got today from the Mortgage Bankers Association said that the housing market is either at or nearing its peak. It doesn’t specify markets though, only the United States as a whole.
