Argh! The hosting company from hell will never leave my life! Probably a year and a half ago I had some major hosting issues that were falling on deaf ears so I decided it was time for a new host. I told Globat to cancel my account, which they did promptly, my site was turned off after a week or so and I haven’t looked back. Welp, I get back from vacation this past Sunday and what is in the mail? A letter from a collection agency on behalf of Globat saying I owe $269 and some odd change, but they will accept $229 at this time (as if I have resisted their original figure in the past despite this being the first I’ve heard from them in nearly two years).

What first irks me is the fact Globat made no attempt to contact me in the past year and a half to resolve this obvious error (my original hosting was paid in advance and came to like $95 for the year I used them), and instead just goes straight to a collection agency. I have no idea what this bill is for!!!

What irks me next is Globat says since the issue is already sent to the collection agency they will not be able to discuss the matter with me. WTF!

And what finally kills me is the collection agency asking if I have any documentation of the cancelled account. Like hell I do… How many people do you know that retain e-mails for years on end? Give me a freaking break. The kicker is from my experience, Globat does not retain tech support tickets so it’s doubtful that they have any record of when I stopped receiving service either.

In the end, it’ll be my word against theirs, but I am 115% sure I am in the right. Looks like I’ll be getting a nice ding on my credit because there is no way in hell I’m paying for a service that not only did I cancel, but I did not receive (site went down and has been some domain squatter’s site for over a year now).

Oh well, such is life in the land of idiot Americans.

For reference: mjcomputer.net – doesn’t look like I’m getting what I’m “paying for,” does it?
