Because I should be in the hospital…

On the way in this morning I’m going along Towlston Road, minding my own business when all of a sudden an extended dump truck turns right in front of me. I’m going about 40mph and to give you an idea how close I was when he turned in front of me, it’d take me probably three times as far as I had to miss him.

The idea of hitting a dump truck is not a rosy one. I cut it hard to the left in to his lane, barely miss him and then notice there is a car just behind him. As soon as I’m by, I cut it hard to the right (ABS a-chirpin’) and miss the lady who is also slamming her brakes, by millimeters. It was so close that her and I stopped our cars to check for damage.

What did the dump truck driver do? Continued on his way in to the construction site. I’m livid. I pull up to the site and decide it isn’t worth the effort to confront him. After all, dump truck drivers are mean, right? I picture me walking up and them hammering me with metal pipes and burying me in someone’s home site. I start heading to work and then decide that that was bullshit. I turn around again, come to the site, and begin walking through the nasty wet clay. I really don’t care I’m getting dirty and that the shine I gave my shoes this weekend was completely ruined, this guy almost got me killed, he needs a reaming. I confront him, he claims his brakes failed and some guy adjusted them for him within the past 2 minutes (I dunno, maybe they have a knob they can turn?). I ream him a bit, and end it with the fact that he should have at least stopped to apologize. He does apologize and I’m on my way. Apparently dump truck drivers aren’t tough… As far as the brakes go… Why turn in front of me? Why not go straight? I don’t buy it.

I chose to not get the guy’s employer’s number or truck number since he wasn’t as rude as I expected; in essence saving his job. For that, and the fact that I saved 3 vehicles, I believe I deserve the day off.

<img alt=”” src=”http://www.iammike.org/cutenews/data/upimages/today2.gif” style=”border: none;”/>

[rant]I’m really glad I drive one of the most nimble cars on the road Had I been in anything else it would have been really ugly. Sure, if I had been in an SUV I might have been safer in the event of an accident, but isn’t avoiding accidents altogether more safe than that?[/rant]
