Just contacted The Eye Center to set up a Lasik consultation. At least $2500, but people who have had it say it is the best money they’ve ever spent. Anyone have experience?

As one of the 6-8 posters on you site, no experience here. None for your sister either. So that is 1/3 to 1/4 of your posters. I don’t think your parents have any experience either. Jessica #2? Steve? Chris? After they answer I think all of your visitors are done. 🙂
Myself, my mom, my stepdad and a family friend all had it done with the guy who did my stepdad’s corneal transplant. He was part of the trials for FDA approval and has been doing LASIK for over 10 years.

That is of course if you wanted a referral… wihch, in my opinion, is crucial when dealing with your vision.
P.S. – Most life changing experience evaR!
I dont mind my contacts now so I am waiting til the technology gets better, the procedure is cheaper, and to see if there’s any long term side effects.
Not being genetically deformed and all, I’ve never had any problems with my eyes.
So apparently it is best to wait for your eyes to stabilize for a few years before the surgery, otherwise the results can diminish over time. Unfortunately, my prescription did change a bit since my last set of glasses a few years back so I\’m thinking it might be better off to wait til maybe my late 20s. At that time, maybe the price will have dropped even more or to a point that is so low that insurance companies see it as cheaper than glasses for a lifetime and cover it.
You get what you pay for. Given inflation and the fact that it’s already been out for 10+ years it’s likely that the price will only be higher in 5 years. It’s not like a new computer that will be obsolete in 2 years so it’s cheaper. If you’re waiting for “new” technology then you get to be the guinea pig for it. [tongue]
Insurance is a valid point… though should at least help defray the cost based on your expected glasses/contact expenses.
