Around 1:30pm, I receive an e-mail from our intern that his car, a <a href=”http://www.usaraud.ee/ajuvant/chevy/chevy-celebrity89.jpg” target=”_self”>1987 Chevy Celebrity</a> <a href=”http://www.iammike.org/gallery/?display=miscellaneous%2F2007_06_06_Hit_n_Run%2FDSC00017.JPG” target=”_self”>has been hit in the parking lot</a>. Having been hit in that same parking lot at least twice in the past two years, I snap in to action.<br/><br/>Adam and I scour the lot for potential offenders. We find a couple, until we stumble upon a silver <a href=”http://www.iammike.org/gallery/?display=miscellaneous%2F2007_06_06_Hit_n_Run%2FDSC00019.JPG” target=”_self”>Jetta with Tennessee tags</a> that is parked on the other side of the building. <a href=”http://www.iammike.org/gallery/?display=miscellaneous%2F2007_06_06_Hit_n_Run%2FDSC00018.JPG” target=”_self”>Fresh damage</a>? Check. <a href=”http://www.iammike.org/gallery/?display=miscellaneous%2F2007_06_06_Hit_n_Run%2FDSC00020.JPG” target=”_self”>Fresh rust flakes</a>? Check. <a href=”http://www.iammike.org/gallery/?display=miscellaneous%2F2007_06_06_Hit_n_Run%2FDSC00021.JPG” target=”_self”>Plastic dimpling rubbed off that matches the intern’s car</a>? Check. Blue marks from the intern’s bumper sticker? Check.<br/><br/>Loudoun County Sheriff is called, <a href=”http://www.iammike.org/gallery/?display=miscellaneous%2F2007_06_06_Hit_n_Run%2FDSC00022.JPG” target=”_self”>arrives ten minutes later</a>, agrees with our findings, and is currently scouring the building for the Jetta’s owner.<br/><br/>Update (30 minutes later): It looks like <a href=”http://www.iammike.org/gallery/?display=miscellaneous%2F2007_06_06_Hit_n_Run%2FDSC00026_fixed.jpg” target=”_self”>they found the guy</a>. Get him, intern!<br/>Update (40 minutes later): Apparently if the owner gets in contact within 24 hours (apparently the police coming to get you counts as contacting) there is no foul. The guy admitted fault, but said he didn’t feel it… I’m not sure where it’s going from there since obviously any repair would probably cost more than the car is worth.<br/>Update (1 hour later): Talked to the intern… He says the guy wants him to go get estimates and he’ll just pay him off.
