I’m not exactly sure why I finally pulled the trigger on <a href=”http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/ipod_mp3_speakers/devices/207&cl=us,en” target=”_blank”>these</a>, but I had been eyeing up a set of portable speakers for my iPod for quite some time now. There are many options out there so as an educated consumer, I did a lot of research… Hopefully it can help you.<br/><ul><li>You can spend between $50 and $400 on a set of speakers.</li><li>Some have rechargeable batteries, some do not.</li><li>Some have remotes, some do not.</li><li>Some are portable, some are not.</li><li>Some sound great at high volumes, some do not.<br/></li></ul>My requirements? Cheap, rechargeable, remote, portable, good sound at low volumes. If you want good sound at really high volumes, look to spend about five times what I spent. On that note, if you looked at the link above, MSRP on these bad boys is $150. If you take a peek on <a href=”http://www.ebay.com/” target=”_blank”>eBay</a> you can find them going for a range of prices. I got mine for $61 shipped brand new in the box. You have to be careful, though, a lot of units are refurbished, but if you take your time you can find items from private (not resellers) sellers.<br/><br/>Hands on… Pulled the unit out of the box, admired the nifty carrying case, plugged it in, admired the nifty flashing lights as it charged my iPod and itself, tried the remote, didn’t work, pulled and reinserted the battery half a dozen times, and it finally worked… I dunno… Sound quality? Great. Crank the volume and you get a bit of distortion, but given the size of this thing (easily portable), it can be expected. I turned on “3D Mode,” but can’t really notice a big difference… I suppose it fills the room more? Whatever… “3D Mode” just sounds cool so it’ll stay on. No, seriously, I think it sounds a tad bit better with it on.<br/><br/>Conclusion… A great buy for the price. Having music in the bedroom is nice. Being able to take music to random places will also be nice.<br/><br/><span style=”font-weight: bold;”>9.5/10</span> – Distortion at high volumes, but attractive looking, and great bang for the buck.<br/>

Do they fold up? Seems kinda big to be portable, no? What do I care… I don’t even own an MP3 player.

No they don’t fold up. They’re about the length of a forearm and only two inches thick. They easily fit in a backpack, but walking with them would be awkward.

Finally got some good use out of these tailgating at the Nats game last night. I take back what I said about distortion at high volumes. At anything less than max volume, they sound really good. That one final step to max? The woofers just can’t handle it.
