Having played PGR3, having a great time with it, then playing Forza 2, becoming very bored with it very quickly, I was very excited for this title. Since I had a handfull of games already, I was very resistant to pick it up new, but a guy on a forum had one for sale locally for a very cheap price (I saved $20) so I picked it up from him yesterday.

Popped the game in, was greeted by the expected very easy menu system, and quickly found myself in game. My biggest first impression? I think the prequel looked better.

Car models – Very, very low polygon. Remind me of something I’d see on my original XBOX.

Rear-view mirror – WTF? Seriously, worse than SNES graphics. I don’t know about you, but when I’m racing somebody, I’m checking my mirror now and then. ~12-bit graphics and gross distortion do not make me happy.

On the plus side, I really do enjoy the arcadey feel, the plethora of vehicles, the unlock options, and the career mode. As in the prequel, I’m sure multiplayer will be money as well.

Other negatives are the inclusion of motorcycles; they really didn’t do it right. I’ve been riding some of the slower ones and keeping them from doing tank-slappers is nigh-on impossible. I can’t imagine what the quicker bikes are like. They basically took car physics modeling and gave it wild handling in a straight line.

Overall, the game is fun, and at $40 I can sell it for profit on eBay for another few months.

<span style=”font-weight: bold;”>Links
Developer
Wikipedia

<span style=”font-weight: bold;”>7.9/10 – Good, but was expecting more… At least as much as the prequel
