I finally got fed up with the goofy URLs that my software generates. I found <a href=”http://democute.de.funpic.de/cute/example2.php?subaction=showfull&id=1145819972&archive=&start_from=&ucat=6″ target=”_blank”>a hack</a>, but it screws up existing links to articles as well as all RSS links. On the plus side, people will be able to find me via search engines much more easily.<br/><br/>Thoughts? Does the cost of breaking any previous links and forcing RSS feeds to the top of the main page (typically the article you’re looking for anyway) outweigh the benefit of having a ton more people find the site?<br/>

Debateable. If you want those readers that find you to stay, chances are they’re going to want the RSS to work. I used to middle click the article to open directly to that post (to show comments).

Depends on how much time it takes. It looks like you’ve already changed your permalink URLs though. I would always prefer having a descriptive URL rather than random letters/numbers (I forget how your old URLs used to look)

And the only effect is it doesn’t send you to the exact article via RSS feed. I *might* be able to duplicate the code, but nobody else has done it and I don’t much enjoy paving the way [wink]

IMO that’s a huge side effect… but I’m biased.

I guess the other option to read the posts in “site view” in Netvibes and them middle-click the comment link I feel the need to say something.

I should just think before I click ‘Add’. Now that you have friendly names, can you make the comments take you the comments? Surely some sort of anchor can be added to pages in the /comments/ sub-directory.

The /comments directory doesn’t actually exist. There is some funky redirecting type crap going down via mod_rewrite that I don’t quite understand and don’t really desire to, which is why I’m apprehensive about “fixing” RSS or doing anything else [tongue]

Decided to back out this change for a couple reasons:
1. RSS links didn’t work.
2. Adding a comment backed out to the index.
3. There will likely be an official fix for this some day. I expect that will have the above issues fixed AND will totally hose any links created to my site between now [with hack installed] and then.
4. Any existing links to my site weren’t working.
