I like art. Unfortunately, until yesterday, I had no idea what my favorite style was called. Thanks to a “For Sale” posting on Facebook, I came across a local who makes stuff that I do like, asked him a few questions regarding the style, and now know exactly where to look.<br/><br/>The style is called “<a href=”http://arthistory.about.com/od/arthistory101/a/lowbrow.htm” target=”_self”>Underground</a>” or “<a href=”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lowbrow_%28art_movement%29″ target=”_blank”>Lowbrow</a>.” I’ve browsed through a ton of artists and have fallen in love with the work of <a href=”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyvind_Earle” target=”_blank”>Eyvind Earle</a>, a former Disney artist, and <a href=”http://www.samflores.com/” target=”_blank”>Sam Flores</a>. They aren’t the definition of the style, but I don’t know what else they’d fall under…<br/><br/>As a matter of fact, I just ordered a signed and numbered copy of Earle’s “<a href=”http://www.excellentvirtu.com/earle_berries.JPG” target=”_blank”>Red Berries</a>” and I plan on visiting the <a href=”http://www.lineagegallery.com/index.php” target=”_blank”>Lineage Gallery</a> this weekend to purchase Flores’ “<a href=”http://www.lineagegallery.com/inventory/1845.jpg” target=”_blank”>War and Peace</a>.”<br/><br/>The Lineage Gallery is located in Philly, but it closing its doors at the end of this month so I’m heading up this Sunday to get in before they start taking things down. I don’t have a date so if you’d like to go, let me know!<br/><br/><b>Update:</b> Have discovered a few more artists: <a href=”http://www.blainefontana.com/”>Blaine Fontana</a>, <a href=”http://www.gregoryeuclide.com/”>Gregory Euclide</a>, <a href=”http://www.amysol.com/”>Amy Sol</a>, and <a href=”http://www.juliewest.com/”>Julie West</a>. And some galleries: <a href=”http://www.limitedaddictiongallery.com/index.php”>Limited Addiction</a> (Denver, CO), <a href=”http://www.mmodern.com/”>M Modern</a> (Palm Springs, CA), <a href=”http://www.excellentvirtu.com/”>Excellent Virtu</a> (Indianapolis, IN), and <a href=”http://www.nineteeneightyeight.com/”>Gallery 1988</a> (LA and SF, CA).
