Caitlin had been raving about Atonement for weeks, so being the nice guy that I am, I included it in my first Netflix shipment. Yes, some say I’m a keeper…

Anyway, the movie. I didn’t know anything about it other than it appeared to be a chick flick. Fortunately, it had drama, but did not fall in to the chick flick category; it is something a man can watch while still retaining his balls.
Be prepared for a very sad story. She will cry, you’ll be kind of pissed off… That makes it a good movie.
Having now seen all the nominees for best picture this year, I’d rank this at #3, making my list as follows:
- No Country For Old Men
- Juno
- Atonement
- Michael Clayon (note: sharp drop off #3)
- There Will Be Blood
Does anyone know if they release the final tally? I’d like to see how my thoughts match up to “the critics” or “the Academy” or whoever does the voting.
Why did I not think it was the best? Well, it certainly had the potential; the story was phenomenal, but there were small holes and minor cinematography issues that bothered me.
Overall, put it on your “must watch” list. It isn’t the best movie ever, but it is thoroughly enjoyable.
Grade: A-
Note: Keira Knightley is hotttttt.
