It has been over a week since my last “real” post. Everything since then has been a movie review or something simple like it.
Yes, my last real post was about running. Since that is really all that is going on in my life (I’ll be running 35 miles this week), that makes sense… On the running front I ran a mile race last week and a 5k just yesterday.
The mile was the DC Road Runner’s Track Championship. I was supposed to run 6 that day, the track was 3 from the house, so going there, spectating, and coming home was going to be perfect. Unfortunately, the moment I stepped on the track I knew I had to race. I was a bit tired since I didn’t take those 3 en route at a warmup pace, but I still managed a 5:22, which is an adult personal record (PR) by 33 seconds.
The 5k was the Bluemont 5k, which I had run just two years ago when I decided to get back in to running in a time of 21:58. This year, I fared much better with an 18:49, also an adult PR. I was really happy with the performance as I went out in 9:38 and came back in 9:11… I was picking folks off at the end like it was my job. It feels really good to be stronger than someone at the finish. With that, my last sub-19 is proven to not be a fluke… I am officially a sub-19 5k runner. Sweet!
Aside from running, I’ve been doing a lot of reading and watching movies. I recently completed Once a Runner and have nearly finished the sequel, Again to Carthage. I plan on throwing up reviews in the very near future. I’m also just about halfway through trading transmissions between the parts Integra and the Civic… I dropped the trans from the Integra a week or two ago, and after about 1.5 hours of work Monday night, the trans is almost out of the Civic… The second time is going much smoother.
Oh, oh… I also had a bad experience at Noodles & Co earlier this week. I had a very stale Rice Krispey treat and the manager actually laughed at me when I asked for a fresh one. I got the fresh one, their website got my complaint, and I got a free meal for myself and five others. Don’t accept poor service, folks! Find a feedback form on a website and use it. Complaining to a waiter or waitress does nothing [Dad].
Looking forward (next three months), I’ve got more running (peaking at 45 miles per week), Japanese class begins, a week in LA for a conference capped by a weekend in NYC for a wedding, the marathon, and it all ends with a week in the Caribbean.
