I’m going to try to take notes during games this year; there are numerous things that bug me each game, but living with two females, I don’t get to share these thoughts with anyone.

In case you missed it last night (I wouldn’t actually say you missed anything), the Giants stomped the Skins in the season opener 16-7. It was a lot uglier than the score shows, though.

Giants Drive #1
Um, that Plaxico Burress guy. Remember him? One of the best receivers in the league? Yeah, he needs to be covered.

That pass interference call in the endzone was complete bull; the replay showed pushing from both men… Don’t know how you could call that on one or the other. Mr. Ref, thanks for giving them an easy touchdown.

Skins Drive #1
A sack on the first play, a run on 2nd and 18, a false start, and a 3rd and 20 rush. Nice play calling, nice discipline, this is the team that I know.

Giants Drive #2
Yep, that Plax guy again. Yep, he’s still there. Yep, he’s still gonna kill you.

Brandon Jacobs is just plain scary as he destroys Laron Landry. Hey, Mike Sellers, if you weren’t slow you’d be just like him! Oh well, you fit your own little niche and we love you for that, felon.

Our key defensive acquisition, Jason Taylor is getting absolutely dominated on runs… That makes me sad.

Skins Drive #2
Alright, here we go again! False start on play #1, a blocked pass, a 2nd and 15 run, and what looks like an uncalled interference on a 3rd down pass play.

Thank god for some guy named McDougle killing our punter (our first 1st down of the season!)… My Dad used to call me that when I pulled my tee-ball hat down so far that it’d make my ears in to flaps… And that’s the guy’s name! Haha.

Campbell needs to speed up his release/decision making by about a minute.

Random Thought #1
Closing in on 60, Ed Hochuli seems to get bigger and bigger each year. I didn’t know that he was also an attorney. That’s wild!

Giants Drive #3
As my Dad always says, defensive backs are wide receivers who can’t catch. Time and again, Fred Smoot proves this.

Just as I’m about to say Eli looks scary, he gets a delay of game, nearly throws a pick, and looks plain awful.

Skins Drive #3
Our first pass completion as we near the end of the half! To Cooley! Oops, no, illegal man down field.

Giants Drive #4
I’m not too sure what you can do about all these little in/hook patterns they’re running; the coverage has tightened up, but they’re still completing them! Oh well.

Skins Drive #4
TD! Oh yeah! I’ll take 16-7 at the half.

Skins Drive #5
If nobody is open, don’t just chuck the ball downfield in to coverage… Good god.

We needed 8 yards for a first so what do we do? Run a route for 6. That’s Redskins football.

Giants Drive #5
Eli throws a pick! Here we go! I almost spot tears!

Skins Drive #6
Again, a route that is a few yards short of what we need.

Giants Drive #6
Am I the only one who thinks Tom Coughlin looks dead? (edit: Holy crap! Had a glass splinter on my desk, which ended up in my hand and now there is blood everywhere! Awesome!) Seriously, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tommy Boy bites it some time soon.

Now this is play calling. 3rd and 1, you pretty much know they’re going to run it. That would make a pass play an easy one, eh? So that’s what they do. It’s called spice, unpredictability, what the Skins need!

Note
At this point I gave up on drive numbers. I’ll summarize the remainder of the game for each team in one lump.

Giants
Plax is not good, he is great. You literally cannot cover him sometimes.

Redskins
3rd and 15, we pass for 8. Don’t even look at that guy who is 8 yards away; I’d rather an incomplete pass that had the potential of being a first down.

3rd and 17, we pass for 3. Anybody else noticing how often this is happening? Like, maybe a COACH!?

He is trash. Can we get rid of him already? First he gives Campbell no room on the sideline and then he drops a catch in the endzone off his hands (the defender was close, but not interfering at all).

At the end of the game it is 16-7. It is a two possession game. Why, with two minutes left and being in field goal range did we not kick that field goal as early as possible? It was necessary for us to have a chance… Why waste time?

Speaking of wasting time, holy crap do the Skins need to work on the no-huddle and 2-minute drill; they looked worse than a bunch of high schoolers when it came down to crunch time and eating the clock.

Summary
More of the usual. As a Skins fan, you come to count on certain things; lots of hype, lots of frustration (I was waiting patiently for Zorn to show his emotions… It was orgasmic when he finally did), and unfortunately, Dan Snyder. It is looking like a 7-9 season to me, but I’ll happily be proven wrong (in the favorable direction).
