Over the past week or so, when I’ve noticed something that bothers me and has bothered me many times before, I’ve made a note in my iPhone. The list is getting rather large so I figure I ought to get a few out of the way.
Super Bowl Officiating
Am I the only person to think it was horrendous? No calls were ridiculously blown, but how many had to be reviewed and overturned? How many weak holding or roughing penalties? Why does it always seem the officials get worse by a factor of six when it’s a big game?
Budweiser’s Super Bowl Ads
Usually some of the best. This year? The firm responsible for them ought to be taken out back and shot. Not funny, not interesting, no great effects, nothing. I didn’t understand the point of any of them and wanted them all to stop immediately. I think they maybe had four different ones? I’d rate them all in the bottom five (GoDaddy) had some rough ones, but they were lowish budget (I hope) and you could tell they were trying. Budweiser was just “Hey, let’s get these horsies and make them talk and do stupid $hit. People love that kinda stuff!” Oh, and F “drinkability;” one of the dumbest marketing campaigns of all-time. Then again, more than half of America voted for G.W. in 2004… I bet this stuff works.
Unoriginal Movies
Comic books, sequels, movies that are blatant ripoffs of successful TV shows. Come on… We’ve got Transformers (and now a sequel), G.I. Joe, Star Trek, every comic book . I’m not alone on this. Even comic book nerds agree! Here is a good list of some upcoming comic book movies. It’s not up-to-date (written in ’07), but it gives you a good idea of what I’m talking about. Ant-Man… Come on, now. Who wants to see freaking Ant-Man? Sub-Mariner? Save us; not even worth my comments. Watchmen should have been good since they are awesome, but then they went a bit low budget [based on the effects I’ve seen] and went with an unknown cast… You heard it here first, it’ll smell worse than my post-hotdog/sausage/guacamole/salsa/beer/wine/peach pie/oreo gas… It’s bad.
