Been a while since an update… Nothing too noteworthy happening, but I don’t want to leave you all without an update for too long.
Immediately following the race (posted below), we dug up our yard, ripped out a half dozen stumps and such, and fill up the front bed with 10 bushes and a few little flower clump things. We didn’t get to relax that day until around 7pm. Joyous. We still have a bunch of bulbs to plant and the side yard bed to do… I have no idea when we’ll get around to it.
Also on the yard-work front, I mowed this weekend. Mower started right up! Sweet. Afterwards I threw down some seed in the front. Hopefully it’ll take some more this year…
Following that weekend, a hectic week at work to get a release out. On the running front, I didn’t run because the sprained ankle I had run on was really angry at me. A few days off were what the doctor ordered.
Last weekend was an “island grilling” at a coworkers new house. Had some amazing chicken and I made a mashed sweet potato recipe that turned out to be great. Combined with his infamous rum punch, it was a nice day.
During that weekend, I began my running again, but noticed my knee was really giving me problems. Pain, clicking, and finally a swollen leg that would last for the entire next week. I still ran on it, but only got in 50% of my planned miles. I did some dinky 1-2 mile runs during the week and capped it off with a two-run Friday in which I did another 2-miler and then paced Erin to her adult PR in a 5K (22:55).
This weekend… Geez. It was a three-day since I was given Friday off for getting our release out, but I managed to stay busy the entire damned time. Chores all Friday, chores all Saturday, and then running around all Sunday (literally and figuratively). I even told myself after doing chores nonstop on my day off and Saturday that I wasn’t going to do squat on Sunday… Yeah, from the moment I woke up, I managed to keep busy until I went to bed with folding three loads of laundry.
Saturday was pretty awesome; a coworker had a “movie night” at his house, which is an old, old farm out in Fairfax Station (built in 1770). Really cool house and really awesome watching movies on a screen out in the woods. We started off with Old School, then played a few songs of Rock Band 2 (I really didn’t care for the song selection it shipped with), then moved to Night of the Demon, which the crowd (myself included) vetoed after about 20 minutes, and finally Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which was retty damn awesome at midnight, in the woods, with surround sound set like 50ft behind you.
This week was supposed to contain a Nats game tonight, but I cancelled it yesterday based on the weather forecast. Not much going on other than getting my mileage back up… This weekend I’ve got another 5K Friday, a Neo-Geo gathering here in Arlington, and I might drive out to the track to see some friends. I also really want to fit in dinner at Ben’s Chili Bowl… It has been on my to-do list for months, but I’ve still never been. Maybe if I post about it it’ll happen?
