Looking for thoughts on this… It’s a somewhat touchy subject.

There are many homeless in the Arlington area. I recognize most of them in the Ballston area and a few recognize me back (I bike everywhere… they seem to notice that). I remember reading or hearing that the most special thing to a homeless person is to be treated as if they’re a human being; look at them, acknowledge their presence, respond even if you don’t want to give them change.

What better way to let the world know about these individuals than the internet? Surely it’s FAR out of the comfort zone of most to actually sit down and talk to these folks, but I feel I would be able to do it. I don’t know how often I’d make it happen, but every now and then walk up to one of them, introduce myself, tell them what I’m doing, how it will benefit them (the site would have ads and I’d give all the proceeds back to them), and schedule a lunch.

To the lunch I’d bring a recording device, a few solid questions, a camera, an extra $10 to buy them a meal, get to know them, make them feel a bit more special, and then share their story with the world.

The ultimate goal is locals read it, forge a connection with them in their minds, and treat them differently the next time their paths cross.

Thoughts?
