I spend a fair amount of time running or on my bike. It’s well-documented that such time can be very therapeutic and good for the mind. I tend to agree. However, rather than coming up with the cure for cancer or anything useful like that, I like to make myself laugh or smile. I don’t know if this will become a regular bit mainly because I don’t do regular bits, but I’ll throw today’s musings out there anyway… Musings are typically synonymous with rants or jokes… I present you the following three:

1. If you have a messenger bag and your professional title is not “bike messenger,” you’re an idiot. Does it annoy you when your bag twists around your side constantly? You know what wouldn’t do that? A backpack. You know why a messenger bag does that? BECAUSE IT’S SUPPOSED TO. The intent is for you to swivel it around your side, produce a delivery, hand it to the recipient, swivel it back, and be on your way without having to take it off. Any other use is dumb and makes you a trendy asshole.

2. The perfect Miata is an S2000. Yes, I still miss mine.

3. There is no reason to be traveling against traffic on a trail. Trails ALL naturally have two sides (it’s physics or something). Travel as if you’re on a road (on the right). I’m sure you have some asinine reason related to balancing the impact on your shins or something like that, but there is no excuse. You’re an idiot and you’re going to cause an accident. You probably even have a messenger bag. End yourself.

Today’s training was a 5.2 mile ride, followed by a 3.1 mile run, and finished with an 11.6 mile ride. No complaints or pains. Do need to come up with a better way to carry my shoes while cycling.
