Two movies in a week? Probably my only two visits to a theater this year!

Heather introduced me to the brilliance that is Kung Fu Panda just a couple of months ago. It’s the only movie in quite a while to earn the coveted 5-star rating from me. It was… magical, perfect… Yes, a kid’s movie. I was very excited to see the sequel.

Having been out of town last week and being booked the past couple of nights, I decided to surprise Ms. Heather with a “date night” to see Kung Fu Panda 2. My first free night just happened to coincide with the release of it… Done deal.

It’s 10:30 and I did a heck of a lot of stuff today so I’m going to keep this short… The sequel did not pull me in in the same way that the original did. The magic was missing. The lesson to be learned is a far less universal one. I wouldn’t call it a dud, but a minor letdown. I was entertained, but not wow’d. If you are adopted or happen to have been severely scarred by your parents, you may relate to the theme a bit better, and while I did once threaten my parents with a baseball bat, I don’t fit that bill… so I didn’t.

3 out of 5. Wait to watch it at home.
