Had lunch with Heather at Pete’s Pizza yesterday. Rode my road bike, but forgot my lock so I propped it up next to the window beside our table, removed my cycling shoes (ready for a run), and ate.

As we were wrapping up our meal, a shady looking hispanic guy on a green mountain bike with a milk jug basket on the back rolls by… and then he stops next to my bike, takes a look, and continues. In the next few minutes, he slowly rolls by at least three or four more times. Each time giving my bike a SERIOUS look. Mind you, I’m only inches away from it, but behind mirrored glass so he has no idea.

Heather needed to head back to work, but I really wanted to nab this guy. Realizing I too needed to get back to work, I opted to walk outside and “mount up.” Shady looking guy makes another pass through, makes blatant eye contact with both Heather and me A NUMBER of times and speeds off. I had enough time looking in to his eyes to pretty much tell him “Yeah, it’s mine, you can go away now.”

As he’s speeding away, I see him make a cell phone call. I’m pretty certain he’s telling whatever friend was driving to him with a van of some sort to toss my bike in the back of that the heist is off. I hop on my bike, tail him for a short bit, and find his bike parked outside Baja Fresh in Clarendon. I didn’t see him, but even if I did, what was I gonna do?

More than a bike per day is stolen in Arlington County. I want to get this guy. I don’t think it could be any clearer as to what was going down. Anybody down for a show?
