As of the end of January, I am no longer on my bicycle team board. I served six functional years over the past five actual years; two initially as web and communications director, three as president, and one of those presidential years also as web and comms after a board member moved. Double duty with two of the more time-consuming roles with a one year old in pandemic? Blast!

I’m very glad to have less responsibility for the moment, and also very grateful for what my time on the board did for me as a leader and speaker.

The past two years was a very peculiar time to attempt to lead a social group when everything around us was screaming to not be social. We survived, a few members found interests outside of bicycle racing, but for the most part folks are champing at the bit to get back out there. I regret operating mostly in survival mode over this period, but truly felt that’s all we were able to accomplish. We did try a few things, some had marginal success, but overall maintenance was the name of the game.

With any luck we’ll inch even closer to normalcy this year and the new energy brought onto the board can do wonderful things with it.

I look forward to putting my newfound free time into a second child.
