Work
I’m working! For the past month I’ve been ramping up at Skyward as a mobile automation engineer. Unlike my last few roles, I’ll be able to get my hands dirty with manual testing as well, which is something I’ve been missing. I go on paternity leave tomorrow so I haven’t accomplished much, but I’m up to speed and ready to hit the ground running in 3-4 weeks upon my return. Oddly, I’ve only met a single coworker when he dropped my laptop off. It’s been a weird and hard start, but I’m grateful it was a start; I’m the last hire for now.
Development
We’re also due for an update on my professional development over at Udemy. Since the last check-in two months ago, I made great progress for one of those months (the one in which I wasn’t working) with a daily lesson, and then very little in the other (in which I was working) with only one lesson or session per week. I have completed 107 of 492 lessons and have 43 hours and 17 minutes remaining. At my current rate I’ll be done in over a year. Clearly, I need to accelerate this a bit, but it’s pretty darn hard to force learning at night when you spend all day learning and in meetings. I’m very familiar with CSS and Bootstrap and have just started JavaScript. I’m hugely impressed with Udemy and this course and teacher in particular. Money really well spent.
